Who we are
The Bedfordshire Free Press is an independent digital publication covering local news, current affairs, satire, and comedy for residents of Bedfordshire — including Bedford, Luton, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Biggleswade, Sandy, Ampthill, and the villages in between.
We launched in 2024 with a simple idea: people who care about their local area deserve a publication that takes the news seriously and absolutely nothing else seriously. We cover planning decisions, transport, health, education, and community stories — then we skewer them in our satire section before illustrating the absurdity in our comedy gallery.
We are not affiliated with any political party, council, or regional media group. We are funded entirely through advertising and reader support.
Editorial policy
Our news coverage aims to be accurate, fair, and sourced. We follow the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) Editors' Code of Practice as a guiding framework.
Our satire and comedy sections are clearly labelled and entirely fictional. No satire piece is intended to be mistaken for factual reporting. We do not write satire that targets private individuals; our satirical subjects are public bodies, public figures in their public roles, and local institutions.
