Stockwood Park concert is the centrepiece of a year of borough celebrations
Indie-rock favourites Kaiser Chiefs will headline a landmark outdoor concert in Stockwood Park as Luton marks 150 years since it became a borough.
Billed as “Luton Rising presents: Party in the Park”, the event forms the centrepiece of a year-long programme of celebrations and is set to be one of the biggest community occasions in the town’s recent history. Organisers describe it as a “once-in-a-generation” gathering bringing together music, culture, local talent, community groups and residents — both current and former — to celebrate the people and stories that have shaped Luton over the past century and a half.
Tickets and resident discount
General sale tickets went on sale on Monday 8 June at 10am, powered by Ticketmaster, with organisers warning that demand is expected to be high. Luton residents can claim a discount on Early Bird tickets by entering the first three characters of their postcode in the discount code field at checkout — a nod to the celebration’s local-first spirit.
The concert is being delivered by Luton Rising in partnership with Step Forward Luton, with further detail on the line-up, travel and frequently asked questions available through Step Forward Luton’s website.
A year of celebration
The Party in the Park headliner sits within a wider Luton 150 programme that the council announced earlier in the year, spanning community events, cultural activity and civic milestones across the town. Luton was granted borough status in 1876, and the anniversary programme is intended to recognise the contribution of the diverse communities that have grown up around the town over the following 150 years.
For a town long associated with hat-making, the Vauxhall motor works and London Luton Airport, the milestone offers a moment to look back at a distinctive local history — and, organisers hope, a chance for residents to come together for a large-scale celebration on home soil.
What to know if you’re going
Concert-goers are encouraged to plan travel in advance and to check the official Step Forward Luton channels for the latest information on gates, accessibility and what can be brought into Stockwood Park. As with any large outdoor event, organisers advise buying only through the official Ticketmaster link to avoid resale and counterfeit risks.
With the headline act confirmed and tickets now live, attention turns to the rest of the Luton 150 line-up — and to whether Stockwood Park can match the scale of the ambition behind the borough’s big birthday.
